Hohenneuffen Castle

Hohenneuffen Castle was already inhabited in ancient times during the La Tène period (450-0 BC). More than 2000 years ago, the castle had more of a sacral than a military significance. It is located around 743 meters above sea level and stands on a Weißjura rock on the edge of the Swabian Alb. The castle complex itself is at least 900 years old and was first mentioned in a document in 1198.

Friends of recent history can also find out more about the historic, memorable Three Countries Conference in 1948 with the ministers and presidents of the three south-west German post-war countries. It was here that the foundation stone was laid to unite the kingdoms of Württemberg, Hohenzollern and the state of Baden to form Baden-Württemberg, which was founded in 1952.

It takes about 20 minutes to reach the viewpoint from the designated parking lot. Hohenneuffen Castle offers not only high-quality gastronomy but also a varied cultural program – including open-air events in summer. For example, the Hohenneuffen mountain run takes place every year in June. The length of this run is 9.3 km and the elevation gain is 438 meters. There is also a regular medieval market in the castle courtyard.

On Sundays and public holidays, the outer walls are beautifully illuminated.
